Medical Assistant
If you are considering a career change and would like a rewarding job that helps people, the medical assisting field may be a satisfying career choice. Medical assistants must be detail-oriented, enjoy interacting with people of all ages and lifestyles and have good analytical skills. Medical assisting is a growing industry with good employment potential. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 29 percent increase in medical assisting jobs between 2012 and 2022.

Medical assistants are essential members of a patient-centered health care team and are often the first member of a health care team that a patient meets. Being able to interact in a friendly, reassuring way may put a nervous child at ease or help someone in pain express what they are feeling.

Medical assistants work in a number of health care settings from doctors’ offices to hospitals to nursing homes. The field involves recording patient history, taking blood pressure and other vital signs, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims and working closely with doctors, nurses and other medical personnel.

Most people in this career earn a certificate or diploma through accredited medical assistant programs. Some receive on-the-job training in a professional setting under supervision of a doctor or nurse. Earning a certificate through medical assistant programs in community colleges or online can be used as a stepping stone to further advancement in the medical field.

  1. Medical Assistant Certification
Medical assistant certification is popular owing to the fact that most medical establishments require health care assistants to become certified. The medical field is the one sector that will always have the same amount of business whether there is an economic boom or a recession. Doctors are among the major contributors to the medical field, however, nurses and medical assistants are more involved with the patients and the treatments than doctors.
